Dennis Wayne Conard

Dennis Wayne Conard, M.D., age 63, of Hanover, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. Born August 25, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Don L. and Jeanette (Hoeppner) Conard. Dennis graduated from Southwestern High School in Hanover in 1971. After high school he attended Indiana University in Bloomington and earned his undergraduate degree. He continued on to medical school and completed his doctoral studies at Indiana University Bloomington. Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a Navy SEAL Physician for 12 years and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After retiring from the Navy, he worked and taught in emergency rooms at various hospitals in California. After years of travel, he decided to return to Indiana to be take care of his aging mother. Upon his return, he settled in Canaan, Indiana and practiced medicine in the area. Before retiring in 2009, he served as a medical physician at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky. Dr. Conard previously worked at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison; he also had a practice in Versailles, Indiana with King’s Daughter’s Hospital. During this time he also practiced with Norton’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was EMS medical director for Switzerland County and Carroll County. He was on site physician at the Kentucky Speedway. He was the occupational therapist for various manufacturing facilities in Northern Kentucky. Dennis married Stacie R. Alcorn in May of 1994 and from that union he became the proud father of one son and four daughters. His son Tyler and his daughters: Jordan, Rilie, Morgan, and Harper, were the joy of his life. He was not only their father, he was their hero and their Daddy. He was a member of the Friendship Legion and Hanover United Methodist Church. He loved taking care of his cat, Tinker Bell, scuba diving, biking, practicing medicine and spending time with his children. Dr. Conard will be forever missed by his son, Jonathon “Tyler” Whitham Conard of Indianapolis; his daughters: Jordan Taylor Conard, Rilie Paige Conard, Morgan Olivia Faith Conard, and Harper Rose Conard, all of New Albany, Indiana; his sister, Nancy Keller of Indianapolis; his brothers: Don David Conard of Brownsburg, Indiana, Richard Conard and his wife, Joan, and Jack Conard and his wife, Betty, all of Indianapolis; and his nieces and nephews: Kristen Conard, Michael Conard, and Kevin Conard. Dennis was well loved and will be dearly missed by his ex wife and the mother of his children, Stacie Alcorn Conard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison Hilltop, with interment to follow in Brooksburg Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, September 20, 2017, and from 11:00 AM until time of service on Thursday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
