Bobby Lyons Obituary

With his loving family surrounding him, Bobby “Bob” Lyons, 45, passed away on October 9 as a result of a motorcycle accident. Bobby’s family thanks the countless family and friends for the incredible outpouring of support in the last few weeks as this has been a powerful source of strength during this time. Bobby was an original spirit and had tremendous character – he was fiercely loyal, genuine, funny, confident, protective, and supportive of everyone he loved. Bobby was a free spirit who enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, grilling, feeding the birds and deer in his yard, and socializing with his family and countless friends. He was also an avid collector of unique and nostalgic items. His love language was gift-giving – he enjoyed buying thoughtful and/or quirky gifts for friends and family. He donated to various causes to help others. He was a highly decorated arm wrestling champion and was the 1999 Iowa State champion. Bobby was a 1991 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. He worked for the family business, American Tree Service. He also pursued entrepreneurial interests in the logging trade. Bobby is forever lovingly remembered by parents Terry and Becky (Callahan) Lyons; sisters Vicki Lyons (husband Patrick McElroy) and Lesley Lyons (husband Lee Monahan); and the love of his life, Julie Wernimont (and her children Mackenzie, Myles, and Mitchell Wernimont), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Bobby is predeceased by grandparents Margaret and Bill “Bullets” Lyons and Lester and Lillian Callahan; aunts, uncles, and his Black Lab Shadow Lyons. A celebration of Bobby’s life will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Friday October 13, 2017 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Msgr. James Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in placid. A Bobby Lyons memorial fund has been established.
