Bonnie Rawlings Obituary

Bonnie Rawlings, age 90, passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on June 1, 2019, in Cedar Park, Texas, after a brief hospitalization. A long-time Estherville area resident, she had most recently been living in Liberty Hill, Texas.

She was born Bonna Mae Roggow on July 27, 1928, in the area of Burke, South Dakota, the eldest of five children to Alvin and Grace Roggow. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Burke until the 8th grade. In 1945, the family moved to Spencer, Iowa and continued farming there. She soon moved to Spirit Lake, living with an aunt and uncle while working as a nursing assistant at the hospital, until she met and married Dale Rawlings, a local farmer in the Estherville area.

After their marriage on October 29, 1950, they moved to a farm near the Ingham Lake area in rural Wallingford, where they farmed for 40 years. Bonnie and Dale adopted and raised three children, Greg, Daleen and Gail, and were active members of Calvary Gospel Assembly. Bonnie loved to cook, often serving noon-dinners to various farm hands. She was also a quilter, active with the Women’s Missionary Group at church and was known for her hand-stitching. In 1990, they moved off the farm, living in Estherville until Dale passed away in 1992. Bonnie continued living in Estherville, and moved into the Homestead Co-op Apartments in 2008, where she loved to visit with neighbors, garden, read, and play Dominoes. In 2017 however, her health declining, she moved to Texas to live with her son Gail’s family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, one brother, Leonard Roggow, sister-in-law Beverly Roggow, brother-in-law, Allan Jensen, sister-in-law Gladys Holmgren, and son-in-law Bradley Stamas. Surviving her death are children, Greg Rawlings, Daleen Stamas and Gail (Rena) Rawlings, siblings Mervin Roggow, Doris Jensen, and Duane (Paula) Roggow, grandchildren Grant, Shane, Amanda, Ashlee, Braeden and Austin, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 27th, at Calvary Gospel Assembly, 21 N 8th St, Estherville, Iowa, starting with Visitation at 10 am, and Memorial Service at 11 am, followed by lunch in the church basement and interment at Eastside Cemetary.
