Dennis Ridout Obituary

Dennis Alan Ridout was born February 14, 1946, to Burl Nelson Ridout and Wilma (McIntire) Ridout in Estherville. He passed away July 13, 2017, at the age of 71. He attended Estherville schools graduating in 1964. He received a BA Degree from Morningside College in Sioux City where he majored in business. Immediately after graduation he was drafted into the army where he served in Vietnam as part of the 552nd Military Police Unit. He achieved a rank of Sergeant First Class. In recent years he was able to attend reunions around the country with other "Deuce" members reminiscing and making new friends.

Denny married Carla Smith in 1970 and they returned to Estherville shortly after where he joined his father in the real estate and insurance business. In 1986, he received his CPA certification and was employed by Hickman Eckard CPA firm. He then owned his own private practice until joining Greig and Company as their accountant.

Denny was a lifelong member of First Christian Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a past Kinship board member, a member of the VFW and was honored to serve on the Estherville Library Board.

Memories of growing up in the Maplecrest neighborhood with 63 playmates, football, days spent at the Spirit Lake cottage and playing guitar with the Crossroads group were among his favorites.

He enjoyed dogs, ice cream, walking, biking, music, building and patio time. He liked to write and had a talent for getting the obscure crossword clues. Denny treasured his children and grandchildren who experienced first- hand his gentle caring soul.

He is survived by his wife Carla, son Travis and wife Carolyn Ross, daughter Ashley Norris and husband Aaron; and grandchildren Lorelei, Julianne and Isaac Ridout and Ophelia Norris.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother William.
