Dolores F. Laffey

Dolores F. Laffey the daughter of Harry and Pearl (Hansen) Hansen was born June 6, 1930 in Ceylon, Minnesota. She died on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 86.

She received her education and graduated from Armstrong High School.

On February 13, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald Laffey. The couple made their home in Armstrong and Dolores and Don owned and operated D&D Market for many years. The store was both a business and a social opportunity to meet and greet the many friends that supported their store. Dolores also worked at the Golf Course pro shop in Armstrong. Don died in 1996. She enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles and circle word books, golfing, bowling, assisting with the after school Methodist children’s church group (BBB CLUB) and dancing, especially the Jitter Bug. Don and Dolores were "snow birds" for nearly 20 years, enjoying close friendship with other locals traveling to Arizona. Dolores moved to Valley Vue Care Center in October of 2014.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Armstrong.

Left to cherish Dolores' memory are her children, Ginger Fortescue of Armstrong; Danny (Mary) Laffey of Birmingham, Alabama; Lon (Anita) Laffey of Des Moines, Iowa; three granddaughters, Stacey, Jennifer and Danielle; three grandsons, Andrew, Nicholas and Isaac; four great grandchildren, Bradley, Zachariah, Timothy and Hannah; brother, Rodney (Carolyn) Hansen; sisters, Dixie (Bob) Laffey and Jolene Johnson all of Armstrong.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son-in-law, Tom Fortescue.
