Dr. Richard Allen Petersen, the son of Roy and Darlene Petersen, was born January 22, 1943 in Ringsted, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home in Fenton, Iowa, at the age of 74.

He attended grade school in Ringsted, and later moved with his family to Fenton, where he graduated from high school.

On January 26, 1963, Richard was united in marriage to Gloria Walker in Denver, Colorado at Assembly of God Church. The couple began their marriage in Le Mars, Iowa where he attended Westmar University for several years and received his teaching degree in Industrial Arts. The couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa and Richard began teaching industrial arts. Their first son, Heath was born while living in Sioux City, Iowa. He continued his teaching career in Kiester, Minnesota, where their second son, Matthew was born. They then moved to Ringsted, Iowa, where their third son, Benjamin was born. While in Ringsted they owned and operated Petersen Furniture. Then the family relocated to Portland, Oregon where he attended University of Western States and received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Richard's practice was located in Fairmont, Minnesota for 30 years and then in 2003 they retired in Fenton, Iowa.

He enjoyed restoring vintage automobiles and building computers. He thoroughly enjoyed talking with people that shared like interests with him, especially his three sons. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Fenton.

Left to cherish Richard's memory, his wife, Gloria Petersen of Fenton, Iowa; his three sons, Heath Petersen and wife Shelia of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Matthew Petersen of New Ulm and Benjamin Petersen and wife Krista of Worthington, Minnesota and five grandchildren Travis, Jesse, Olivia, Madeline and Tyson Petersen and one brother Steve Petersen and his wife Jean of Pasadena, California and niece Laura Petersen and nephew Craig Petersen.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Darlene Petersen.
