Gean Ann Work Obituary

Gean (Wilson) Walders Work was born on April 13, 1936 at her parent’s home in Armstrong. She left this world on September 24, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Armstrong at the age of 81 years.
Gean spent most of her growing years in the western part of Armstrong, her parents and grandparents ran Wilson’s Hatchery. She attended Armstrong Consolidated School and graduated from Estherville High School. On January 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to George Joeseph Walders, to this union there were four children born. George passed away on June 25th 1962. On August 22, 1975, she was united in marriage to Orval Wayne Work, to this union there were four children born. Orval passed away on May 29, 1981. Gean went on and received her Associated of Science Degree and worked for a time at Iowa Lake Community College. She was office manager for Container Corp, worked for Ernie Williams as a book keeper. She then worked for her Associate of Arts and Nursing Program; graduating with a licensed practical nursing degree. She worked in many areas of nursing for 35 years, retiring from United Clinics in Swea City as an office nurse.
She is a member of the United Methodist Church and held many positions in the church. Gean was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, President at Weiby Johnson Auxiliary, the 10th District, and was State President in the year 2001-2002. She strongly believed in serving our veterans. She was a member of the Rebekah’s and Royal Neighbors, she was Grand Matron for three years.
In her leisure time she loved to crochet many afghans and doll clothes. She liked to read and play cards. She enjoyed time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carla (LeRoy) Strong, Mary (John) Fisher, Marjory (Troy) Deling, Gary (Dawn) Walders, Wendy Duitsman, Wanita (Art) Hammond, Larry Cole, and Patti (Arlyn) Burkhart, 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Marlys Faye Masterson.
She has been preceded in death by both husbands; daughter, Marlys Cole; her parents, Arnold and Esther (Horswell) Wilson; and her grandparents.
