Leona Ilene Fisher

Leona “Nonie” Ilene Fisher the daughter of Henry and Ida (Pickell) Whitacre was born August 15, 1924 in Gruver, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 93.<br><br> She received her education at Gruver school.<br><br> On October 7, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harry Fisher in Jackson, Minnesota. Leona was employed with Wadco Foods and Big John's Bargain Center. She also did house cleaning on the side. Leona enjoyed playing bingo, cards and gambling, she even played Atari on the TV for money but not "dirty" money. Most important to Leona was spending time with family. Harry died in 2000.<br><br> She attended Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville.<br><br> Left to cherish Leona's memory are her children, Janice Von Behren of Gruver; Marvin (Sherry) Fisher of Estherville; Joyce (Maury) Tieszen of Estherville; four grandchildren, Starla, Nealy, Chad and Nick; seven great grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Bev) Whitacre of Estherville; foster child Steve (Darcy) Smith; also by many nieces and nephews.<br><br> She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; granddaughters, Jodi Fisher and Traci Hutchens; four brothers, Eugene (Stella), Charles (Ethel), John (Pauline) and Cecil (Myrtle) Whitacre; sisters, Henriette (Vernie) Peterson, Trella (Delmar) DeVos and son-in-law, Darold Von Behren.

Leona “Nonie” Ilene Fisher the daughter of Henry and Ida (Pickell) Whitacre was born August 15, 1924 in Gruver, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 93.

She received her education at Gruver school.
