Gloria Mavis Wilson, daughter of G.M. and Isabella (Clemitson) Tonderum, was born August 10, 1930 in Ruthven, Iowa. She died Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 87.
Mavis graduated from Graettinger High School then attended UNI, Long Beach State and Chapman College. She was an elementary and special education teacher for 39 years, teaching in Terril and Graettinger, Iowa and Anaheim, California.
On August 12, 1951, Mavis was united in marriage to Marvin Wilson at Lost Island Lutheran Church. Marvin died March 9, 1998.
Mavis was an active member of Estherville Lutheran Church, at one time serving as President, teaching Confirmation, and attending Hanna Circle meetings. She was also a VFW Auxiliary member. In her spare time, Mavis enjoyed reading and following sporting events.
She is survived by her son, Michael Wilson of Spirit Lake, Iowa and siblings; George Tonderum of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Gordon (Rosie) Tonderum of Terril, Iowa; and Roger (Lynn) Tonderum of Inver Grove, Minnesota; and Ione Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Preceding Mavis in death are her parents; husband; sisters, Marian and Linda Wilson; brothers, Curtis, Harlan and Bennie Tonderum and brother-in-law, Bill Johnson.
