Michael F. McKay

Michael F. McKay, the son of Wayne and Edna (Peitersen) McKay, was born April 13, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Palisades Manor in Garretson, South Dakota, at the age of 71.<br> He moved to Ringsted, Iowa, with his family as a child and graduated from Ringsted High School. After high school he attended Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa. Mike served in the United Sates Army during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was assigned to the Dominican Republic. After his honorable discharge he returned home. At a later date he attended Hennepin Tech in Minneapolis. <br> On September 21, 1968, Mike was united in marriage to Linde Farstrup in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike was employed at Honeywell in Minneapolis. The family then moved to Osage, Iowa where he was employed with F.S. and Migro Seeds. In 1983, the family moved to Ringsted, where he worked at the Emmet County State Bank Insurance Agency. He later worked for Kemna Auto and the Wild Rose Casino. In 2008, the couple moved to Brandon, South Dakota. In his leisure time, Mike enjoyed golfing and attending children’s and grandchildren’s activities. His family was the highlight of his life.<br> He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and United Lutheran Church, both in Ringsted. He was active in the church choir. Since moving to Brandon, he has been a member of Brandon Lutheran Church. Mike was also active in the Ringsted American Legion where he served as Commander for 20 years. <br> Left to cherish Mike's memory are his wife, Linde of Brandon; his daughters, Heather (Chris) Stettnichs, Dawn (Troy) Askeland; grandchildren, Ellie, Megan, Camryn Stettnichs, Andrew and Kelsi Askeland; sister, Connie (Ron) Wilson; sister-in-law Jean Eller; and brother-in-law Greg (Pat) Farstrup.<br> Mike has been preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Edna McKay.<br><br>
