Vercie Irene Webb Obituary

The youngest of 13 siblings, Vercie was born April 12, 1929, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, to J.W. and Laura (Smith) Overstreet. Her family moved to Texas in 1938 and she attended Anton schools where she met her future husband, J.D. Webb, at the age of 9 while waiting for the school bus. It was love at first sight, and the couple married in Littlefield, Texas, on Nov. 11, 1944, at the ages of 18 and 15 ½. The couple farmed in Texas and were blessed with two children, Jesse Davis, Jr. (Davis) and Cynthia, before moving to Estherville in 1967 to run a John Deere dealership, which they owned and operated until 1986. She passed away on September 23, 2017 at the age of 88 years at Avera Holy Family Hospital, in Estherville.
In retirement, Vercie and J.D. operated a craft business making seashell creations, including clocks, cars, cowboys and more, to sell at craft shows throughout Iowa and Minnesota. Vercie and J.D. would go on yearly trips to Florida to “muck” for shells to use in their crafting. Vercie also worked many years for Hoye Drug and Hy-Vee, both in Estherville.
Vercie was a devoted wife and mother, the ultimate caretaker and homemaker. She always had plenty of food for anyone who stopped by, even if they wanted seconds, which was often the case because her cooking was that good. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Church of Christ. Along with her husband, Vercie helped start the Estherville Church of Christ in 1973. In her later life, she was a member of the Church of Christ in Spencer. Vercie had a beautiful soprano voice, which you could hear on most days singing church songs with her husband around the house.
Since J.D.’s death in 2015, Vercie enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends whenever she had the chance, including visits to Texas, Nashville, and Des Moines, plus a cruise to Mexico with her granddaughter Crystal in January of this year. She also enjoyed keeping up with friends and family through Facebook and playing Words with Friends. She loved pepper, popcorn, Bit-O-Honey, and roses from her backyard garden.
Vercie will be missed greatly by her family, including children Davis (Sarah) Webb of Nashville, Tenn., and Cynthia (John) Voster of Spencer; grandchildren Jeryl (Toni) Webb of Chillicothe, Ohio, Belinda Webb of Nashville, Tenn., Robin (Phil) Plourde of Cedar Falls, Regina (Matt) Hatzinger of Wilmar, Minn., Ryan Voster of Ft. Dodge, Kimberly (Sam) Isburg of Des Moines, and Crystal Voster of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren Darbi Webb, Erik Plourde, Jack Isburg, and Henry Isburg; Sister Francis Marshall of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-laws Annette Hargrove of Abilene, Texas; and Erelene Webb of Anton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Vercie in death are her parents; her husband of 70 years, J.D.; and 11 brothers and sisters.
