Wilma Marie Hansen

Wilma Marie Hansen, daughter of Elma C. Hansen (Fisher) and William P. Hansen was born in Estherville, Iowa on April 20, 1927. Wilma’s mind was constantly seeking knowledge and spent her life pursuing many passions including music, playing the piano, sewing, knitting, cooking, politics, women’s rights, reading, dolls, and dogs. She was proud to have been a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville. <br><br>She graduated from Estherville High School in 1945 and then graduated from Estherville Junior College in 1947. <br><br>Wilma was employed as a bookkeeper at several Estherville businesses including a local auto dealership and her father’s gas station, Phillips 66. She provided administrative support at Golden Sun Feeds, Estherville Daily News, and First Presbyterian Church.<br><br>On December 31, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lloyd B. Hansen at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville. Wilma and Lloyd had five children: Pamela, Julee, Jeffrey, William, and Lori. They were divorced in 1972 and and she pursued her dream of attaining a teaching degree.<br><br>She graduated Mankato State College in Minnesota, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in December 1968. She continued to attend advanced courses through Mankato State from 1968 to 1971.<br><br>After gaining her teaching certificate, she worked as an English teacher in 1970 and 1971 in Graettinger, Iowa. In the following years, she worked for various employers in differing positions including The South Dakota Education Association, Sears, and The Boys and Girls Club of America. Wilma spent two decades of her later life in Des Moines, Iowa enjoying time with her oldest daughter Pam and grandson Zach. She spent her last years in Sioux Falls and Centerville, South Dakota in assisted living facilities.<br><br>Wilma passed away in Centerville, South Dakota on September 20, 2017 at the age of 90. She is survived by her children Julee Marr, Jeffery Hansen, Bill Hansen and Lori DeVries; sons-in-law Terry Marr and Oscar DeVries; daughter-in-law Sue Hansen; grandchildren Krista Evans, Zach Hansen, Jenn Talatzko, Heather Reed, Danielle Whaley, Melissa Bailey, Bud Hansen, Josh Hansen, and Tony Fales; and many great grandchildren. Wilma Marie Hansen, daughter of Elma C. Hansen (Fisher) and William P. Hansen was born in Estherville, Iowa on April 20, 1927. Wilma’s mind was constantly seeking knowledge and spent her life pursuing many passions including music, playing the piano, sewing, knitting, cooking, politics, women’s rights, reading, dolls, and dogs. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1945 and then graduated from Estherville Junior College in 1947.
