Delores Inez Gloyer Obituary

Delores I. Gloyer, 100, of Merrill, Iowa passed away at Pinicon Place Assisted Living in Anamosa, Iowa on Sunday, July 5, 2020. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Merrill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley (Adaville) Cemetery, rural Merrill, IA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Delores Inez Gloyer was born on April 10, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of George and Emma (Hines) Glau. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. Following High School, Delores worked as a nanny and housekeeper.

On December 20, 1941, Delores and Clarence Paul Gloyer were united in marriage in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived on a farm in rural Whiting, Iowa until moving to a farm near Merrill, Iowa in 1962. Together they farmed until 1975. They later moved into Merrill in 1985.

Delores had been a member of the Adaville United Methodist Church before becoming a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church. She received the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award for her 30 years of service at the Senior Meal Site in Merrill. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, flower gardening, genealogy and was a great cook.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Allen Gloyer of Lemon Grove, CA; a son and his wife, Bruce and Sharon Gloyer of Topeka, KS; a daughter and her husband, Patricia and Douglas Nauman of Anamosa, IA; seven grandchildren, Brian Gloyer, Jason Gloyer, Paul Gloyer, Phillip Gloyer, Amy Gloyer Smith, Lee Nauman, Kira Nauman Lampton; 11 great-grandchildren, Emma Gloyer, Rebecca Gloyer, Katherine Gloyer, Wade Gloyer, Tobin Gloyer, Baden Gloyer, Solenne Gloyer, John Pierce Gloyer, Jackson Dane Gloyer, Chelsea Smith, Laura Steelman; great-great grandchildren, Tristan Bodey and Sylvan Steelman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on February 26, 1996; a daughter-in-law, Judy Gloyer; brothers, LeVerne Glau, George (Delores) Glau, Donald Glau and Darrell (Ada) Glau.
