James William “Jim” Wilson, 54, of Effingham KS was one of three people who died Friday, May 12, 2017 from an automobile accident on Interstate 29 near Platte City, Mo. Also killed were his wife Lisa R. Wilson and his mother-in-law, Carol E. Wehking. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at the Atchison County Community High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow at 3:30 pm at the Brush Creek Cemetery, 310th Rd and Cheyenne Rd, Kennekuk, Atchison County, KS. No formal visitation will be held. Jim was born on October 11, 1962 in Horton, KS, the son of William O. and Lila F. (Hochstetler) Wilson. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1981 and also Vo-Technical School. He worked as a highly certified welder/boilermaker for American Boiler in North Kansas City. Jim was a prominent land owner and farmer. He was a co-owner in his business with Wilson Brothers Angus. His involvement in the community includes: the Brush Creek Cemetery Board, American Angus Association, Atchison County Livestock Board, Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) and served many years with the Atchison County Fair Board. Jim has served many dedicated years with Atchison County 4-H including 4-H leaders for Shannon 4-H Club and Effingham Community 4-H Club. In previous years, he was also active in F.F.A. and Horton First Baptist Church. In his youth, Jim was deeply involved with his family in the Atchison County Dairy Board. In later years, Jim along with his parents and siblings were awarded 4-H Family of the Year Award. Also, receiving the FHA Family of the Year. Jim was a devoted family and community-oriented hard worker. He was married to Lisa R. Wehking on October 31, 1997. Survivors include a son, Matthew (Jake) Wisdom, Hiawatha, KS, a step-son Austin (Mariah) Gibson, Horton, KS, his mother, Rev. Lila Wilson, Horton, KS, two brothers, Kenny (Marlise) Wilson, Horton, KS, and Keith (Dolly) Wilson, Muscotah, KS, and two sisters, Wanda (Dale) Small, Muscotah, KS and Sharyl (Philip) Leitch, Everest, KS and a number of nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William O. Wilson, Horton, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Muscotah Cancer Support Group or the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS.
