H. Gene Shoemaker, 88, of Colby, died Monday, September 11, 2017, at Citizens Medical Center. He was born January 11, 1929, in Protection, KS, to A.B. and Alice M. (Lee) Shoemaker. Gene married Doris L. (Haines) Shoemaker on May 1, 1946. The couple was married for over 71 years. Gene was a retired pastor for the United Methodist Church. He served multiple parishes in western Kansas. These include; Brewster/Winona, St. Francis and Oberlin. Gene was a member of the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dean Shoemaker. Gene is survived by his wife, Doris, of Colby; children, Joe (Brenda) Shoemaker, of Drummonds, TN, and Janet (Kal) Morin, of Parker, CO; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one sister; Melba Holliday, of Warsaw, IN. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Colby. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
