Irene Gladys Griffith, age 96, of Elkhart, Kansas died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Morton County Special Care Center in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born November 23, 1917 in Enterprise, Kansas, the daughter of John August and Anna M. (Johnson) Lindahl. Gladys was educated in the Enterprise, Kansas Schools, Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and the Vogue School of Fashion Art in Chicago, Illinois. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elkhart, Kansas. She was also a member of Chapter B7, PEO in Elkhart and The Order of Eastern Star. On June 28, 1941, she was united in Holy Matrimony with C. Lyndon Griffith in Salina, Kansas; he preceded her in death on January 26, 2006. She leaves to mourn her: one son, Quentin Lindahl Griffith of Chickasha, Oklahoma; one daughter, Catherine Ann Griffith McKinley and husband David of Manter, Kansas; two grandchildren, Tim O’Neill and wife Jill, and Cara Bailey and husband Adam; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia O’Neill, Ailey O’Neill, Colin Bailey, and Brendan Bailey. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; Clarence Lyndon Griffith III; brothers, Melvin A. Lindahl and Harold W. Lindahl; and sister, Ethel Weir. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Dennis Reimer officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to the Morton County Special Care Unit, United Methodist Church in Elkhart, or Elkhart PEO all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
