Shawn Swearngin, 60, Spring Hill, Kansas passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 peacefully at his home with his family by his side. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, Kansas 66083 (913-592-2244). Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2020 at Hillsdale Presbyterian Church, 22875 W. 255th Street, Hillsdale, Kansas. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Hill Food Pantry or American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com Shawn was born August 3, 1959 to Carl and Hazel (Purvis) Swearngin of Kansas City, Missouri. He developed a strong work ethic at an early age operating a newspaper route with his brothers. He also worked at the Kansas City Zoo. Shawn graduated from Westport High School in 1977 and signed up to join the Air Force at age 17. He served in the Air Force from 1977-1982 earning the rank of Sergeant. Shawn moved to Spring Hill, Kansas in 1987 where he married Kelly Petty on June 17, 1989. He was a valued Technical Support Engineer Manager at Sprint for 37 years where he made lifelong friendships with numerous colleagues. Shawn deeply loved his family. He cherished coaching his daughters youth softball and basketball teams. As a grandfather, Shawn took great pride in watching his grandchildren participate in soccer, baseball, football, basketball, dance, taekwondo and band. He was a proud card carrying member of the NRA and a Harley Davidson enthusiast. Shawn was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. Shawn is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kelly of the home; daughters: Maggie (Luke) Smith, Overland Park, Kansas, Sue (Bryan) Hey, Edgerton, Kansas, Sarah Swearngin, Edgerton, Kansas, Cody (Curtis) Glauser, Paola, Kansas and Chris (Manyvohn) Rinehart, Spring Hill, Kansas; brothers Clint (Jane) Swearngin, Kansas City, Missouri and Sam (Sheila) Swearngin, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren: Parker, Lane, Brodee, Ryder, Mei-Mei, Emma, Lauryn, Rylee and Ashlie; great-grandson Knox Christopher; aunt Doris Adams and uncle Charlie (Margaret) Swearngin; cousins: Kellie Daniels, Mike Swearngin, Phil Swearngin, Lindsey Nix and Timm Adams; brothers-in-law Mike Petty and Steve Petty and sister-in-law Sheila (Glenn) Pannell.
