Funeral services for Dorothy L. Hance, age 71, of Stockton, will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with Father Galen Long officiating. Mrs. Hance passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton.
She was born June 20, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from the Messmer Catholic High School in Milwaukee. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, sewing, making crafts and spending time with her family. She was also a Community Leader for the Busy Bee 4-H Club and a 4-H Leader for crafts. Dorothy was also a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered at the St. Thomas Catholic Church crocheting caps and hats for patients battling diseases in hospitals.
On November 4, 1961, she married Harry Hance in Milwaukee. Together they farmed near Stockton for most of the lives. Harry passed away on April 15, 2002.
Survivors include her son Carl Hance of rural Stockton: daughters Catherine Carlson of Stockton, Elizabeth Beckley Hays, Kansas and Fay Hance and Janet Jimenez of Midland, Texas and seven grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Emily (Szopinsky) Matyasz.
As per the families request, the casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery. Friends may sign the register book from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
