Eleanor Blanche (Burgess) Buss of Stockton went to sleep and woke in the arms of Jesus on April 30, 2016 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas. She was born on January 24, 1941 to the late Ivan Edward and Ruby Lavena (Nutsch) Burgess on the farm of her grandparents, Henry Hanna and Eleanor Elizabeth (Rae) Nutsch, southeast of Palco in Rooks County, Kansas. She attended Palco High School and graduated with the Class of 1959.
On June 17, 1960 Eleanor was united in marriage to Glen Leon Buss at the Palco Assembly of God Church. They celebrated 55 years together, loving each other and raising their family. When her children were young she did a radio broadcast from her home for a radio station in Phillipsburg, Kansas and managed the Stockton Swimming Pool for a few years. Later she worked in several offices for Rooks County in the Courthouse and Sweet Abstract/Hageman Law. Eventually she retired as the Rooks County Treasurer.
Eleanor was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Having asked Jesus into her heart at the age of 5, when her great aunt and uncle, Evangelists Harley and May Ketner, held a service at the Palco Assembly of God Church, she never tired from serving the Lord her entire life. She was a member of the Main Street Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and always active in her community and in her church.
Eleanor is survived by her husband Glen of the home; children Cristy Tuttle (Von) of Gove, KS, Tracy (Kelly) of Stockton, KS and Troy (Shari) of Logan, KS; Grandchildren Tanner (Megan) Tuttle of Gove, KS, Amber (Nathan) Porter, of Leoti, KS, Kaley (Brett) Sander of Quinter, KS, Paige (Tyson) Pabst, Manhattan, KS, Ethan Buss, Logan, KS, Andrea Buss and Nolan Buss of Stockton, KS, 2 great grandsons Riley and Cooper Tuttle, Gove, KS; Sister Helen (Clair) Beecher Wichita, KS, Brothers, Dale (Kay) Burgess Pueblo, CO, Rex (Betty) Burgess, Plainville, KS; Nieces, nephews, cousins; Aunts May Mills, Lakewood, CO, and Marjorie Diebel, Lincoln, NE; Brother in law Darrel (Pat) Buss Littleton, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and in laws William Edward (Eddie) and Zettie (Roskilly) Buss.
Eleanor leaves a legacy of faith, hope, and love. She taught us by her daily example how to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, to love one another with Godly kindness and wisdom, and to walk humbly in service to God and others. We rejoice with her today as she has stepped from this life to life eternal, hearing the words, “Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
