Obituary for Fred Koehler

Mass of Christian Burial for Frederick Ivins "Fred" Koehler, 83, of Hays, formerly of rural Plainville, will be Monday, September 19, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, with Father Galen Long as Celebrant. Mr. Koehler passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born April 13, 1928, in Hays, the son of Earl John and Irma Viola (Ivins) Koehler. Fred graduated from Plainville High School and served his country in the Marines.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, was a lifelong farmer, and worked in the oil fields as a floor hand and as a pumper.

He is survived by his wife Theresa "Tressie" (Phlieger) Koehler, whom he married January 15, 1952, in Plainville. Other survivors include his daughters Thelma Nickelson and husband Neil of Hays, Rebecca Hake and husband Dean of Hutchinson, Claire Koehler of La Habra, California, Andrea Linder and husband Doug of Pittsburg, Kansas, Gretta Koehler-Jones and her husband Dion of Grandview, Missouri; son Daniel Koehler of San Francisco; daughter-in-law Brenda Koehler of Plainville; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Tom and grandchildren Toby Hake, Heather Koehler, Hermione Koehler-Jones; brother Vernon; sister Eula Jeanne Rector; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. Traditional viewing will not take place as cremation is planned. There will be a Parish Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment of the urn will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery following mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Grade School and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663.
