Obituary for Hester L. Stamper

Hester L. Stamper, age 90, of Plainville, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas. Hester was born January 17, 1921 the daughter of Richard and Irene (Cox) Grecian. She spent her younger years on a farm south of Palco, Kansas with her two brothers, Donald and Russell Grecian, and her sister Goldie Faye Bradley. She moved to Stockton at the age of 14 to live with an Aunt and Uncle and attend Stockton High School.

On May 20, 1941, she married Forrest Stamper and they lived on the family farm southeast of Stockton where they raised two sons, Alan and Larry Stamper. They moved off the farm to Plainville in 1990.

Hester enjoyed her gardening, taking care of her large yard, spending precious moments with her loved ones and baking her cherry nut angel food cakes with strawberry frosting which was a birthday favorite. She and Forrest were very active in the Swing N Wheels square dance club and made many friends there.

Hester is survived by her sons Alan and his wife Phyllis Stamper of Rio Verde, Arizona, Larry and his wife Linda Stamper of rural Plainville; sister Goldie Faye Bradley of Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren Jud Stamper, Amanda Stamper-Merchant and husband Shawn, Michael and his wife Liz Stamper, James and his wife Lyndsey Stamper, and Mark and his wife Lindsay Stamper; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest in 1992, her two brothers, and a grandchild Paul Phillip Stamper.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. Burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Thursday, 9-8 Friday, and from 9-10 Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rooks County Cancer Council or the Stockton Medical Clinic Building Fund and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N.
