Obituary for Joyce Lucille Brumitt

Joyce Lucille (Bennett) Cunningham Brumitt passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 79. She was born on February 8, 1937 in Webster City, Iowa to Victor Jacob and Mildred (Lester) Bennett. One of eleven children, she married Bruce Cunningham in 1957. To that marriage three children were born, Nancy Jo, Daniel Bruce, and Brynda June. Bruce died in May 1961 in a trucking accident. Joyce “Jo” then married Duane “Wimp” Brumitt and Cynthia “Cindy” Marie was born.

Jo was an active woman enjoying the Rocky Mountains for snowmobiling in the winter and fishing in the summer. The mountains also served as an inspiration many of the paintings she so beautifully created. She painted and wallpapered many homes in the Plainville area, getting to know almost everyone in town. She had previously worked at the nursing home and enjoyed taking care of the residents. She was very patriotic and was active in the VFW Auxiliary.

Jo is survived by three children Nancy Austin and husband Terry of Plainville, Daniel Cunningham and wife Charlene of Plainville, and Brynda Hayes and husband Greg of Ellsworth; brothers Marion, David, Paul, and Ben Bennett; ten grandchildren David Herl, Libby and Shannon Becker, Jacob and Danielle Herl, Jonathan and Jessica Hayes, Haley and Chris Lemman, Rachel and Bo Snider, Joshua Cunningham, Lacci and Michael Hayes, Derek and Kylea Brumitt, and Shanaya Brumitt; nineteen great-grandchildren; best friend Donna Gager; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Mildred Bennett, husbands Bruce Cunningham and Duane “Wimp” Brumitt, daughter Cynthia “Cindy” (Brumitt) Cox, and granddaughter Jennifer Herl Benedick.

Jo was a woman of faith, hope, and love. She lived everyday of her life showing family, friends, and neighbors, that the greatest of these was love. She will remain in our hearts forever because of the love she had for us, and how much we loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at First Christian Church in Plainville. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30. A second visitation will be from 9:00-noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
