LeRoy Allen Wessel passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 64. He was born on March 28, 1952 in Axtell, Kansas to the late Raymond and Mary (Brucken) Wessel. He attended Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas and moved to Plainville, Kansas after graduation. On November 25, 1977 he was united in marriage to Julia Rogers at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Stockton, Kansas.
Upon moving to Plainville, LeRoy went to work in the oilfields on a pulling unit. He worked his way up in the industry, and in May 1992, he began working for Kansas Fishing Tool, Inc. of Great Bend, Kansas as a Senior Field Supervisor. He was very knowledgeable, enjoyed the work, and was well respected by his peers and co-workers.
LeRoy enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as traveling. His favorite trip was traveling with the family to visit England and Scotland. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Julia Wessel of the home in Plainville; daughters Kimberly Wessel of Plainville, Lori Wessel of Plainville, Nicole Wessel of Denver, CO, and Michele Wessel of Plainville; brother John Wessel of Plainville; sisters Ruth Appelhanz and husband Whitey of Topeka, Mary Jane Dennis and husband Kirby of Topeka, Arlene Evans and husband John of Topeka, and Marjorie Andrew of Aurora, CO; brothers-in-law Kent Rogers of Kansas City, MO, and Tim Burgardt of Garden City; and sisters-in-law Sandra Rogers of Solomon, and Tina Burgardt of Garden City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Mary Wessel, and brother-in-law Charles Rogers.
LeRoy was a man of faith and character. He was a perfect example of someone who worked hard to take care of his family, and was a friend who could be depended upon. His love and laughter, along with the good times and memories, will live in our hearts forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:30pm on Thursday at the funeral home and from 6:00-8:00pm at the church with Vigil starting at 7:00pm.
