Obituary for Marjorie M Bartholomew

Marjorie Mae (Livingston) Bartholomew, 88, passed away on March 31, 2011. She was born May 1, 1922 in rural Stockton, Kansas, the daughter of Orville and Clara Livingston. She graduated from Woodston High School, Woodston, KS, and from the Stewart Beauty Academy in Topeka, KS.

In 1941 she married Gordon Bartholomew and moved to the farm near Alton, KS. They had three children, Gloria, Carolyn, and Eric. For a number of years she owned and operated Margie's Beauty Shop. She and her husband, Gordon, moved off their Kansas farm in 1970 and lived in Iowa and Georgia before returning to Kansas for retirement. In July of 1996, Marjorie became a widow, living the next ten years in Lindsborg, KS. In 2007 she went to live with her daughter in Wheaton, IL where she lived until her death. Marjorie was always active in her community and church. She was loved and admired for her hospitality, entertaining, pleasant disposition, creativity, tap dancing, and willingness to help others.

She is survived by her brother, Dale Livingston of GA; three children: Gloria Bartholomew Nelson, VA, Carolyn Stonehocker, IL, and Eric Bartholomew, KS; two grandchildren: Dana Lea Nelson, PA, and Tim Stonehocker, CA; one great grandchild: Tobias Stonehocker; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, and brother Donald Livingston.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton, Kansas. Viewing will be on 1 – 8 Saturday and 9 – 11 Sunday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home and also Sunday 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be at the Stockton Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Ecumenical Social Services for the Elderly, an adult day care program that Marjorie attended on weekday afternoons. Memorial contributions can also be made to the Elam Bartholomew Herbarium at FHSU. These may be left or mailed to the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 1st Street, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
