Obituary for Mary Ann Barber

On October 7, 2011, after a short illness with cancer, Mary Ann (Kaba) Barber went to heaven to meet her Heavenly Father, to whom she promised to keep the lights in heaven shining brightly.

She was born to James and Marie Kaba on September 5, 1939 in Paradise Township, Kansas. She graduated from Plainville High School and on May 2, 1957 she was united in marriage Philip A. Barber. To this union three children were born.

She was a member of Our Lady of Carter Lake Church. She worked as a nurses aid until she retired.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, crocheting, reading, and especially crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Denny and Larry “Butch” Kaba.

She is survived by her loving husband Phil of Carter Lake, Iowa; daughters Cindy and husband Mike McGuire, Kathy and husband Roger Nelson; son David and wife Carla Barber, all of Oakland, Iowa; brothers James and wife Janice Kaba of Plainville, Mike and wife Lisa Kaba of Boulder City, Nevada , Mark and wife Jeannie Kaba of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law Karen and husband Jay Wilson of Great Bend, Kansas; brother-in-law Larry and wife Jeanie Barber of Forgan, Oklahoma; grandchildren Jeremy and wife Laurie, James and wife Natalie, Jason, Justin, Sarah, Rachel and Emily; step grandchildren Emily and Kirsten; great grandchildren Haley, Alexia, and Ellie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with Father Galen Long as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Home. A Parish Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Ann Barber Memorial Fund to be designated later by the family. Condolences may be sent to the family on our send your condolences link.
