Maxine Ruth (Darnell) Campbell was born on March 2nd, 1927 in Moreland Township, Graham County on a farm south of Bogue, KS to Earl T. and Bernice (Irwin) Darnell. She lived with her family, spent her childhood there, and received her high school certificate from Palco. Maxine was hired as a steno-clerk for Continental Oil Company in Plainville, KS she was transferred to Great Bend, KS in 1963. In 1968, she went to work for Champlin Petroleum Company, in Ellinwood, KS where she worked until 1972 when she transferred to Oklahoma City, OK. In 1987, she transferred to Houston, TX where she retired in 1989.
She was united in marriage to Ray Campbell on May 5, 1951 in Hays, KS. They had one son and one daughter. Ray preceded Maxine in Death on December 27, 2000.
During her life, she lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. She was living at her home in Spring, TX at the time of her death. Maxine was a member of the Methodist Church and her entire life was dedicated to family and friends. She loved working and was very active with the Desk and Derrick clubs in the cities where she lived. She loved playing cards and fishing.
She loved all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her survivors include her son Ron (Barbara) of Spring, TX and her daughter Ronda (Ron) Zecha of Great Bend, KS, one sister, Helen DeGarmo of Wasilla, AK and one brother, Gary Darnell, of Plainville, KS as well as 4 granddaughters, and 12 great grandchildren.
Maxine passed away May 19, 2011 at her home in Spring. Her husband, Ray, preceded her in death as well as her brothers, Bill and Ernest Darnell, sisters Hope Denton and Marge Oliver one son-in-law, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville with Reverend Daryl Sherraden officiating. Burial will be in the Moreland Township Cemetery near Bogue. Visitation will be from 5-8 Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. – service time Thursday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville.
