Obituary for Thelma Eichman

Mass of Christian Burial for Thelma E. Eichman, age 88 of Plainville formerly of Zurich will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with Father Galen Long as Celebrant. Mrs. Eichman passed away Wednesday February 23, 2011 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.


She was born July 30, 1922 in Ellis County, Kansas the daughter of James L. and Anna (Joy) Joy .


Thelma was a homemaker and was the Postmaster in Zurich for over 25 years retiring at the age of 72. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Saint Ann’s Sodality, the Friendship Club, and the EHU. Thelma loved baking, gardening, growing flowers, raising chickens, and her fruit trees.


On November 17, 1946 she married Virgil Eichman in Plainville. He passed away December 11, 1984. Survivors include her sons Charles and wife Shirley Eichman of WaKeeney, James and wife Cindy Eichman of Plainville; sisters Frances Eichman of Hays, Kansas, Norma Gagnon of Lawrence, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil on December 11, 1984, her son Harvey Lee Eichman, brother Cecil Joy, granddaughter Shelly Eichman, and great grandsons Nathaniel and Taten.


Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery near Palco. Visitation will be from 5-8 Saturday, and 9-8 Sunday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. A St. Ann's Sodality Rosary will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, afternoon at the chapel with a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening also at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart School and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663.
