Obituary for Virginia M. Meyers

Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia M. Meyers, age 95, of Plainville will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with Father Galen Long as Celebrant. Mrs. Meyers passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.


She was born March 18, 1915 near Plainville the daughter of Nicholas and Pearl K. (Rogers) Kriley. Virginia graduated from Stockton High School and became a teacher. Along with teaching she worked at a variety store before marrying Edmund J. (Eddie) Meyers on May 10, 1938 in Plainville. Once Virginia and Edmund married, Virginia settled into the life as a homemaker and mother. She also helped her husband farm until they sold the farm for health reasons and moved to Plainville into the home of her daughter & son in law Pat & Tom Norris in 1998.


Virginia was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild. Her religion was the dearest to her heart and she practiced it daily. She enjoyed handy work, crocheting, embroidering, baking, cooking, and making wedding and anniversary cakes. She volunteered at the Sacred Heart Guild, Rooks County Nursing Home, the Bloodmobile, and the Cancer Crusade, and many others.


Virginia is survived by her daughter Patricia and husband Tom Norris of Plainville; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund in 2003, son Donald on 1990, and her siblings and spouses Gerald and Feliceine Kriley, Margaret and John Allen, Ann and Vester Reeder, and Marcellus and Lorraine Kriley.


Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Thursday, 9-8 Friday, at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. A Ladies Guild Rosary will be 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the funeral chapel followed by a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening also at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart School, or in Masses and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S.
