Funeral services for Wilma Conger, age 96, of rural Woodston, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Woodston United Methodist Church in Woodston with Reverend Les Ellis and Reverend Lyle Miller officiating. Mrs. Conger passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton.
She was born October 26, 1914 in Osborne County, Kansas the daughter of Paul and Olie (Lana) Blecha. She graduated from Alton High School. Wilma was a telephone operator in Limon, Colorado, and later was the Postmistress at the Woodston Post Office for many years.
Wilma was a longtime member of the Woodston United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Order of Eastern Star in Alton. Wilma enjoyed gardening and growing flowers along with being a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.
On November 16, 1941 she married John Conger in Stockton. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her grandchildren John and wife Tina Conger of Hays, Jake Conger of Goodland, and Jana Conger of Hays. She is also survived by her six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons Paul Conger on May 21, 2008, Grant Conger on May 30, 2008; granddaughter Jill St. Clair, brother Virgil Blecha, and sister Leona Walker.
Burial will be in the Ash Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-8 Wednesday at the funeral home and from 12:30 – service time Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodston United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
