Sherry VanEtten

COPELAND - Sherry Sue (Martin) VanEtten, 60, died on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Hays Medical Center from the result of a sudden heart attack. She was born on June 23, 1959 to Betty Lou (Patterson) and James Forman Martin, Sr. at El Paso, Texas. She met Randy J. VanEtten in Grants, New Mexico in 1980 and married him on April 9, 1999 at the Haskell County Court House. Sherry worked as a CNA and drove the feed truck for Sublette Feeders for many years. She retired early after undergoing a liver transplant in 2016. She enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers and mowing the grass. Sherry loved it so much that she would mow every other day in the summer making sure not to repeat the same pattern as before. When most of her family was rooting for the Denver Broncos, Sherry found joy in cheering on the underdog! She spent many hours driving in her jeep, soaking up the sun. She loved the dry climate in Arizona and had plans to retire there with Randy this coming year. Sherry treasured spending time with her family. She especially loved when Anthony came home to cook Sunday dinner. She is survived by her husband Randy of the home; daughters, Kim Creeden and fiancé Tony Farnan of Newton, Mandy Freeman of Grants, NM, and Jennifer Martinez and husband Tony of Lakin; a son, Anthony Gallegos of Garden City; grandchildren, Kayla, Jonnathon, Kristopher, Nicole, Asher, and Juanico; two great-grandchildren; sister, Vickie Matthews and her companion Ed Ezra of Brentwood, CA, and Marsha Alderte and husband Joe of Glendale, AZ, a brother whom she spent a lifetime picking on, James Martin and wife Cheryl of Copeland; and her beloved dogs, Zoey and Chip. She is preceded in death by her parents. Cremation was entrusted to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory. According to her wishes Sherry will be buried with her mother in Arizona. There will be a private family service at that time. Condolences may be left at WeeksFamilyFuneralHome.com
