Obituary for Ella Mae Rice

Ella Mae Rice
Ella Mae Rice, 88, of 12436 Kelly Drive, Ashland, Ky., was born in Greenup County, Ky., to the late Thomas Jefferson and Cindy Lou Crisp.
She was married to the late Everett Ross and together they had a daughter, the late Brenda Spears. Later, she married the late Martin L. Rice and they had two daughters by whom she is survived, Yvonne Bell (Bob) of Ashland and Sylvia Negrete (the late Philip Negrete) of Tampa, Fla. For the past 24 years, she made her home with her daughter, Yvonne, and her family. Mother shared with her family many wonderful memories of growing up in Greenup County during the 1920s and 1930s. Included in these memories was attending school and being a student of the well-known author, Jesse Stuart. During the late 1940s and 1950s, she was employed at KDMC as a nurse’s aide. As her family grew, she worked as a saleslady for Amana Freezers and received national recognition for top sales lady of the year. She and her late husband, Martin Rice, also owned their own business of sewing machine and vacuum cleaner sales and repairs. During her life, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, her family being her primary focus. She was baptized in 1986 by the Rev. Walter Wilcox and attended Trace Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Orville, Alden and Bascom Crisp, and a sister, Imogene Crisp.
She is survived by seven siblings, Ada Rucker and Sarah Hutchinson and Dennie, Edgar and Arthur Crisp, all of Ashland, and Thelma Jenkins and Belvia Jennings, both of Beavercreek, Ohio. Grandchildren include Althea Elliott, Aaron and Andrei Spears, Gary Chaney, Justin Bell, Michael and Ryan Davis, Latosha Negrete and Maureen Negrete Brinkman; and great-grandchildren are Annmarie Elliott, Cole, Brett and Brice Chaney, Mike, Christian, Nathan, Josh, Tristin and Cameron Davis and Heather, Megan and Kayte Brinkman.
