Lewis Ray Calico Obituary

Lewis Ray Calico, age 90, of Opossum Kingdom Road in Berea, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Lewis was born in Lancaster to the late Morris and Anna Wallace Calico. He was a retired teacher from Garrard County High School, a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Madison County Civil Defense League, a longtime and very active member of Berea Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and member of the Baraca Sunday school class.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one infant son, Roy Edward Calico; three sisters, Ruth Rowlette, Ruby Spillman, and Opal Calico; and one son-in-law, Wayne Lawson.

He is survived by his wife Pauline Clark Calico; his four children, Ray (Linda) Calico, Lois (Bill) Davenport, Connie Lawson, and Fred (Terry) Calico; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Berea Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Slemp officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-1pm Saturday at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Calico, Randy Calico, Brandon Davenport, Steve Warford, Brad Warford, and Raymond McLain. Honorary bearers will be Stephanie DeFazio, Clarissa Ramsay and the Baraca Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond or the organ fund at Berea Baptist Church.
