David Leslie Bailey Obituary

David Leslie Bailey, 85 of Grayson, passed away at his residence, Monday, July 13, 2020. He was born August 12, 1934, in Johnson County, KY a son of the late Hirst and Zelda VanHoose Bailey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers; Fred Bailey, Wallace Bailey, Charles Bailey and Ferrell Bailey; three sisters; Jean Desjardin, Bula Alley and Ponnie Prucnell, and a great-grandson, Harrison Smith. Dave proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Fred M. Gross Masonic Lodge, a Kentucky Colonel, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He owned and operated B&M Rechrome in Ashland, KY, for over thirty years. He was also co-owner of Checkered Flag Raceway in Boyd County. One of his biggest enjoyments was his life-long love of car racing. He was the owner of the #37 car, which many will remember from its success on the dirt track circuit, but he was also proud that his car was in a Daytona Permatex Race, which is now the Xfinity series. He also loved to play golf and spent many hours at Hidden Cove Golf Course in Grayson, KY, where he was the first volunteer upon its opening. Last but not least, he was forever a Kentucky Wildcat fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sabra Hicks Bailey; a son, David Michael Bailey; three daughters, Leslie Swartz (Charlie), Jill Nolan (Rick), Kelly Smith (Larry); nine grandchildren, Nikki Moore (Jay), Tyler Nolan (Sarah), Shelley Crooks (Chris), Brian Smith (Kaitlin), Robert Nolan (Misty), Brent Smith (Lauren), Whitley Bailey (Jason), Nathan Bailey, Emily Bailey, and seven great-grandchildren; Grace Moore, Lucas Crooks, Rhyann Gibbons, Bailey Crooks, Jacob Nolan, Hudson Smith, and Theo Nolan; three sisters, Faye Music, Martha Ward, and Jennie Klug, and a host of extended family and friends that were like family. Graveside services will be Friday, July 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, military honors will be provided by the Kenova American Legion Post 93, escort supplied by the Patroit Riders. Scot Hoeksema, minister. Visitation will Friday 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.
