Imojean (Jean) Angel Obituary

Imojean (Jean) RIFFE Angel 10/09/1933 - 07/10/2019 Imojean Angel died peacefully at home in her sleep on July 10, 2019 at the age of 85. Jean was born and raised in Rush, Kentucky in a little white house tucked between two hills on Riffe Hallow. She loved her childhood and would tell many wonderful, funny, and even a few scary stories about growing up in rural Kentucky. Over her lifetime she lived in Ashland, Kentucky; Mansfield, Ohio; Palm Beach, Florida; Lake Park, Florida; and Cocoa, Florida. She loved the beach and Florida’s endless summer. In late 1981, she returned to Kentucky, where she lived for the next thirty-six years. Jean eventually moved back to Florida in 2017, dividing her time between her two daughters until her passing. Jean held many diverse jobs. She worked as a telephone operator, she built computers for RCA, assistant managed a fabric store, and did custom sewing for clients. She also became a care nurse in the nursing home business, eventually working as an in home private care nurse. She continued working into her mid seventies. In her younger years, Jean enjoyed target shooting with her father Ray Riffe and became extremely skilled at handling fire arms. Jean did extensive needle work and made many beautiful quilts. She loved dancing: she could square dance, country dance, and even disco. Jean had a passion for gardening and plants thrived under her care. She planted a butterfly garden, with a variety of host plants and nectar plants. Her garden had 12 species of butterfly, with swarms of 20 or more butterflies flitting around the yard. Jean loved wildlife. She fed the birds, squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits. Her efforts at providing food and habitat for wildlife designated our property as a wildlife sanctuary. She was predeceased by her parents Ray Roscoe Riffe and Maggie Riffe, six sisters; Irene Conley, Parthia Shaffer, Verna Mae Stanley, Myrtle Smith, Mabyn Hopkins, Brenda Riffe, and one brother Doc Riffe. She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Davis, Son-in-law Chaires B. Davis, daughter Carolyn Davis and grandchildren Richard “Adam” Davis, Patrick Davis, his wife Heather Davis, one sister Patricia Prichard, and a plethora of nieces and nephews with children and grandchildren of their own. Jean was blessed by God with a rich full life, surrounded by family and friends she loved dearly. She will be missed. A grave side service will be held at 10 am Friday, October 4, at Cribbs Hill Cemetery in Grayson, Kentucky.
