Marian Emily Cassin

CASSIN, Marian Emily Hodes, 89, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Born November 9, 1927 to the late Joseph Hodes, II and Emily Zehnder Hodes; and sister to the late Dorothy Klausing, Joe Hodes, III, and Kathleen Craig. She was a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi Grade School and Sacred Heart Academy in 1946 before going to work for Southern Bell in the billing department from 1946-1951. Marian married James L. Cassin on September 15, 1951 and was the proud mother of eight children who survived her, Daniel J. Cassin (Mary Lynn), Cecilia A. Ritchie (Joe), Steven C. Cassin (Jane), Douglas A. Cassin (Joyce), Sharon E. Kelman (Tony), Kevin P. Cassin, Julie L. Cassin, and Lauren M. Roberts (Mark). Marian is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Cassin (Jessica), Michael Ritchie (Saima), Brian Ritchie, David Cassin, Patrick Cassin, Matthew Cassin (Brittney), Gregory Kelman (Amber), Timothy Kelman (Julie), Jennifer Kelman, Jillian O’Bryan (Corbin), Austin Roberts (Becca), Justin Roberts, and Brandon Roberts; great-grandchildren, Joseph Ritchie, Alex Vogt, Xishan Ritchie, Sofia Ritchie, Penelope Cassin, Graham Cassin, Brianna Kelman, Zachary Kelman, Julius Kelman, Amelia Kelman, Ryan Roberts, Lindsey Roberts, and Baby O’Bryan; and many nieces and nephews. She was known for her baking skills, especially for her bread, 1-2-3-4 pound cake, no bake cookies, pies-especially apple, and cheesecake. She was an avid artist, crossword puzzler, loved fishing, playing cards, and had a great sense of humor. She was never seen without a joke or a smile. She loved boating with her family since Jim’s retirement from GE in 1985. She had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Blessed Mother Mary. Marian was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church/St. John Paul II, St. Raphael Catholic Church, and St. Francis of Assisi. Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. John Paul II, 3042 Hikes Ln. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. The family wishes to thank Hosparus for their care and compassion.
