James Roger Vanhoose Obituary

After serving the Lord by preaching his gospel for several decades Minister James Roger Vanhoose went to his heavenly reward on September 23, 2020 at his residence in Paintsville, KY surrounded by friends and family. He was born August 26, 1943 in Johnson County to the late Quimby and Melissa Akers Vanhoose. On December 14, 1974 at Pigeon Church in Oil Springs he married Kathy Isaac Vanhoose who has stayed by his side as a devoted wife and caregiver these last several years of illness. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons: Rick Vanhoose, Josh Vanhoose; two daughters: Lanetta Auxier, Amy Vanhoose; two sisters: Stella Combs, Myrtle Blanton; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Roger was the former pastor of Baker Branch Free Will Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his death. He also worked as an equipment operator for Ashland Oil until his retirement where he then joined the staff of the Preston Funeral Home as an attendant for several years. When he wasn't at church you could find Roger with a fishing pole or a rifle in his hand hunting or fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 3 P.M. until 9 P.M. and on Saturday from 12 P.M. until time of services. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Saturday September 26, 2020 at Baker Branch Free Will Baptist Church with James Kelly Caudill, Jeremy Estep, and Gordon Ward officiating. Interment to follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville.
