Helen Ruth Parsons

Helen Ruth Ketterling Parsons, 91, widow of Pollard Franklin Perkins and Stoner Parsons, departed this life peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2020, at her home in Paris, KY. Helen was born in Streeter, North Dakota, on January 25, 1929, the daughter of the late Jacob and Emily (Schuler) Ketterling. Helen was a high school graduate; a graduate from Bismarck Nursing School, where she completed her education to become a registered nurse; and a graduate of the University of Washington, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Helen was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as the Associate Chief Nurse in the surgical unit at the VA Hospital in Lexington until her retirement. Helen had lived in Bourbon County since 1972 where she was an active member of the Civitan Club and a leader of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she served as a deacon. Helen was also an active giving member of the Kentucky Colonels. Surviving Helen is her son, Jay (Jane) Perkins of Pickerington, Ohio, and her grandchildren Jayson Perkins of Columbus, Ohio, and Allyson Perkins of Pickerington, Ohio, as well as numerous stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The funeral service, with military honors, for Helen Ruth Ketterling Parsons will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Paris Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Paris cemetery with pallbearers being Jay Perkins, Jayson Perkins, Ronnie Bussell, David Ferrell, Myron Fryer, Gary Haynes, Logan Haynes, and Kevin Parsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Honaker, Doug Martin, and Clyde Parsons. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Bluegrass Care Navigators (800.876.6005, Philanthropy Office, 2312 Alexandria Drive Lexington, Kentucky 40504) or the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund, 911 High Street, Paris, KY 40361.
