Patrick Herbert Kennedy Obituary

ORRINGTON - Patrick Herbert “Pat” Kennedy, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Orrington the morning of November 24, 2019.

He was born in Presque Isle on September 26, 1935. Pat graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1953 as the second youngest in his class. As a young man Pat worked at a filling station then took a pay cut to sign on with Northeast Airlines (later to become Delta Airlines) because, “it was too cold pumping gas.” The airlines became a lifelong career affording him the ability to provide well for his family as well as lots of travel. In 1980 the family moved from Presque Isle to Orrington when Delta discontinued service in Presque Isle. Pat retired from Delta Airlines in 1992 after 36 years of service.

Pat was not once but twice drafted into the Army, first in 1959 and again in 1961.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Many hours were spent at the family camp on Cross Lake fishing, ice fishing, and water skiing. Some of his more memorable adventures include hunting geese and wild boar in Texas, fly fishing in Alaska, as well as several moose hunts in northern Maine. Pat and Sandra enjoyed extensive domestic travel as well as trips abroad to Costa Rica and visiting Ireland and Scotland on four different occasions. They were able to walk the Royal Mile and visit the castle in Edinburgh. Pat, always a true Irishman, enjoyed a few pints of Guinness at the Gravity Bar in Dublin.

Pat was happiest when spending time with his family both in Maine and Rhode Island. In particular, he loved time spent with his six grandchildren and his great-grandson. Countless memorable hours were spent at events such as soccer tournaments, skateboarding events, snowboarding, plays, musicals, and trips to Rhode Island beaches. For 18 years Pat has provided the home base for the annual family participation in the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race. On a regular basis Pat would seek out the many fine Maine craft beer IPAs in order to generously spoil those close to him.

Pat was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Verna (Thibodeau) Kennedy; stepmother, Phyllis (Bradbury) Kennedy; and infant daughter, Mary. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra of Orrington; sister, Rena Cole of Machias; daughter, Renee Trust and Matt Deckers of Franklin; son, Shawn Kennedy and wife, Danielle of North Kingstown, RI; grandchildren, Cassie, Jackie, Rogan, Danny, Leland, and Eva; great-grandson, Philip; brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Nancy Ellis of Monument, Colorado; and many dear friends. He is sorely missed by those close to him.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
