Bucksport- Alton "Cuddy" L. Gross March 9, 1939 - Feb 15, 2019 Born in Prospect, Maine, the son of Alton M. and Belvah (Leach) Gross. He was the fifth of seven children. Predeceased by sister Lois and brother Milton in 2003, mother Belvah in 2002, and father Alton M. in 1989. He was predeceased by the love of his life, wife of 55 years, Patricia "Tippy" A. Gross in February of 2017. He is survived by his two children, daughter Alicia A. and her husband Gerald Murray of Glenburn, son Sean C. Gross and wife Lisa Casterline of Bangor. In addition, his four grandchildren; Kristin Spellman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Alex Mooney of Glenburn, Sarah Gross of Brewer, Joshua Gross of Bangor and great granddaughter Makenzie Nedik of Brewer. He is also survived by sisters Belle Bridges of North Kingston, Rhode Island, Beatrice Roy of Bristol Connecticut, Anna Scott of Bucksport and brother Gerry Gross of East Orland, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a veteran of the U56.S. Army in Europe with the 3rd Armored Division as an occupation force, serving as a cryptologist. Serving again during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Berlin Wall Standoff in 1962 with the 324th Army Security Agency. He was a member of Post 93 of the American Legion in Bucksport, a member of the Masonic Felicity Lodge #19 of Bucksport and Hancock Chapter Lodge #19. He belonged to the Bucksport Senior Citizens Club and the Bucksport and Prospect Historical Societies. He was a 43 year employee of St. Regis and Champion Paper Companies in Bucksport, a member of Local #1188 UPIU, where he worked as a Chief Operator and Tour Foreman in the power plant, holding a First Class State of Maine Engineers License. Over the course of his full and happy life living in Bucksport, Maine, he enjoyed above all his family and friends and especially his grandchildren. He took joy in tinkering in his woodworking shop, and working in his vegetable gardens. He also greatly enjoyed his coffee time with friends at McDonald's in Bucksport and Bangor, as well as various local bean and church suppers. As an avid baseball and sports fan, he maintained an extensive baseball card and sports memorabilia collection. He also took great interest in local and regional history and events, keeping a rather large scrapbook library of related material. Cuddy was regarded as a kind and sweet man, generous and loving to both family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched over his nearly 82 years. There will be an informal family and friends gathering in the parish hall of the First United Methodist Church in Orland on Saturday, February 23rd at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport.
