Francis R. Bartley Obituary

Francis "Frank" R. Bartley 1931-2020 Frank was born at home on a family farm at Dennistown Plantation (Jackman) to George Abel Bartley and Marie Louise Rodrigue. His birth was in the midst of a brutal snowstorm, the great depression and the height of prohibition. He was born by the time the doctor arrived, and the payment for his birth was a glass of Canadian whiskey. He was born the 8th child out of a family of twelve children. Frank was bilingual, speaking both French and English fluently, and educated in a one room schoolhouse. He left school after the 8th grade and went to work in the woods with his father, assisting with operating the Lombard log hauler at the logging camps off the Kennebec and Moose River. Frank was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. When he returned he married Theresa N. Carrier. He worked as a civilian contractor for two tours in Thule, Greenland during project Blue Jay. After returning to Maine, he and his wife lived in Waterville, ME where he was employed by Mathieu's Autobody. He later settled in Bucksport and worked at St. Regis and later Champion Paper Mill until retirement. After retirement, he drove part-time as a Laidlaw bus driver for the Bucksport School Department. He and his wife Theresa were married over 60 years. They raised four children Frank, Dale, identical twins Leah and Liza. He also was a third-degree Knight of Columbus member. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa N. Bartley (Carrier), his daughter Liza Bartley, and eight siblings: George, Paul, Wilfred, Alfred, Louis, Jeannine, Lauriana and Mammie. He is survived by his three sisters Therese Rioux, Rena Maheu, and Judy Jalbert; three children, Frank and Paula Bartley of Bucksport, Dale and Cathy Bartley of Bucksport, and Leah Bartley and Jodie Medeiris of Waterville; three granddaughters, Maureen Bartley of Brewer, Melissa Bartley Warme and her husband David of Bangor, and Marsha Bartley Norwood and her husband Jared of Rockland; five great-grandchildren, Madasin Snowman, Mytchell Snowman, Mykenzie Snowman, Molly Warme, and Wilder Norwood; and two step grandchildren Ryan Francis and Diana Hamel and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to niece and nephew Duane and Judy Wardwell of Orland, good friends Bob and Brenda Overlock of Bucksport, and Paul Carter. Special thanks to caretaker Donna Allen.
