Michael Kenneth McKnight Obituary

Stockton Springs- Michael K McKnight, age 65, of Stockton Springs Maine passed away in the early morning hours of July 10th, 2019, surrounded by his family, after a brave battle with cancer. Mike was many things besides a beloved, brother, husband, father and Papa. He served in Vietnam in 1971 and 1972 in the C-Troop 16th Air Cavalry Regiment in the Outcasts Aero Scouts Platoon. He was a Crew Chief flying on OH-6 “Loach” helicopters. Upon returning home he graduated Northeaster University and earned his A&P license. He took a job in aircraft maintenance with Bar Harbor Airlines. For the last 14 years he was able to further serve, by working as a contractor repairing aircraft in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East. He was very proud to serve in the role of maintaining aircraft that were used to help keep military personnel safe. He greatly enjoyed being with his veteran brothers, restoring and driving antique military jeeps and spending time with his children, grandchildren and wife. Mike was predeceased by his mother Barbara McKnight (McDevett) and his father, Thomas McKnight of Franklin Ma. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years LauraLee McKnight (Barkas). His son, Stephen McKnight , his wife, Cindy and their two children Stockton and Kennedy, his son, Jason McKnight his wife Wynde and their daughter, Elizabeth. His brothers, Robert and Jim McKnight, and sisters, Katherine Croken, Elaine Gardner, and Eileen Meninger. There will be a special memorial gathering and laying of his ashes Saturday August 3rd, at home in Stockton Springs. The family will receive friends and relatives, throughout that weekend. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that notes or letters be written regarding their time with Mike, especially his service in the Army, work in the airline or his time spend abroad. These notes and letters will be compiled for his grandchildren as a helpful remembrance.
