Annie Spirio

ANNIE M. SPIRIO ROCKPORT………………..Our beloved mother and Nana left this earth on June 6, 2019 at 101 years old. Born in Lincolnville on January 30, 1918 and was the daughter of Austin and Edna (Packard) Rankin. Annie May Rankin Young Spirio lived in the communities of Camden and Rockport her entire life. Annie was a 1935 graduate of Camden High School and a 1939 graduate of Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she served as Administrator of Camden Community Hospital for many years. While working as a nurse, Annie raised four children and a step-son with her first husband, Robert Young. Following the death of Robert, she added a step-daughter when she married her second husband, Angelo Spirio. Annie most enjoyed gardening in her flower beds, going dancing with her husband, and playing Sudoku, and doing crossword puzzles. She was also an accomplished piano player and made the best pies. “Nana’s” apple pie was always a hit with family and friends. She participated in various community events and organizations until her later years. On May 15, 2019, she received the Boston Post Cane award as the oldest living resident of Rockport. For several years, Annie has been cared for by her son, Robert and daughter, Judith, who made it possible for her to live out her days in her own home. The family wishes to thank the following people who provided much support with Annie’s care, Gerry Hutcheson, Lynnette Jackson, Karen Bowers, Angie Dugan, and Annie’s niece, Diane Dvorak. Also, the staff of Maine Health Care at Home in Rockland, Karen Jackson, RN, Val Despres, RN, Jo Fales, CNA, and Julie Soucy, CAN, and the staff and volunteers at the Sussman House with respite care. Preceding Annie in death were her husbands, her brothers, Austin and Frank Rankin, her sister, Edna Libby, and her long-time friends, Henry and Betty Bohndell. Surviving are her children, Judith Willis, Nancy Kramer, Annie May (Bill) Updegrove, Robert Young, step-son, Ronald (Jacquie) Young, step-daughter, Mary (John) Killinger; grandchildren, Tom (Colleen) Yoder, Ted (Michelle) Yoder, Jennifer (Derek) DeJoy, Annie May Willis, Rachel (Chris) Theodorous, Leah (Dave McMahon) Kramer, and Bryan (Leidy) Kramer. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends, Barbara and Bernie Horan. A celebration of Annie’s life will be held on July 19, 2019.
