FRANK R. CARR CAMDEN……………………Frank R. Carr, 75, of Camden died on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Pen Bay Medical Center after a privately fought battle with cancer. Born in Brooks on July 16, 1943, he was the son of Richard George and Hazel Lucile (Cookson) Carr and was a member of Camden High School Class of 1961. In September 1961, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Marines serving faithfully for 22 years of active duty. His military career included assignments during the Cuban Crisis, to Okinawa, then to the Brunswick Naval Air Station. In 1966, he transferred to Viet Nam as a Battalion Administrative Chief and court reporter. In 1967, he was assigned to Camp Lejeune before being transferred to Philadelphia as a member of the Officer Selection Team recruiting officer candidates at universities in the mid-Atlantic. Frank served in administrative officer positions in Okinawa, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA, before 1975 when he went to Washington, DC for duty as a correspondence course writer for the Marine Corps Institute. In 1979, he was transferred to Marine Corps Headquarters for duty as the administrative chief for the Chief of Staff of Personnel, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1983. Following his military retirement, he worked in Real Estate in Virginia and the Washington DC area. In 1990, he moved to Albany, New York and became a mortgage broker, moving back to Camden going to work in security at MBNA from 1994 to 2004. Frank was the primary caregiver for both his sister and their mother during their extended illnesses. He has had extensive community involvement with multiple organizations including the American Legion Post #30 in Camden, where he has served as Commander for the past five years. Through Frank’s leadership, the organization has taken on multiple building improvement projects and held community events. A former President and Vice-President of the Camden-Rockport Historical Society, Frank previously led building and grounds projects, organized fund raising events, and has been a trusted source of historical information. For the past 25 years, Frank has served in a variety of leadership positions with the Camden Lion’s Club including past president. He was typically the first one to volunteer for any project and was the liaison for those in need of eyeglasses and other events. A long-time active member of the local Marine Corps League Detachment #637, Frank managed the local annual campaign of Toys for Tots program, which collects new unwrapped toys and distributing them to less fortunate children at Christmas. Surviving is his brother, Jerald “Jerry” Carr of Union; and his niece, Callie Carr of Belfast. Franks was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Estelle Carr.
