Lois Overlock Obituary

LOIS OVERLOCK CAMDEN………………..Lois Caroline (Bowen) Overlock, 93, died on April 26, 2019 at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill with her family by her side. Born in Morrill on November 4, 1925, she was one of ten children of Ernest and Flora (Knowlton) Bowen. She grew up on the family dairy farm which grew large crops of vegetables, attended school in Morrill, and was a graduate of Crosby High School. Lois often stayed with the family of the Waldo County Sheriff so that she could attend high school. In return she helped prepare and deliver meals to the prisoners at Waldo County Jail. Lois lived in Washington, DC, where she went to work for the U.S. Government first as a switchboard operator. Later, she was instrumental in designing maps used by U.S. pilots during the Hiroshima bombings working with sensitive surveillance documentation. After WWII, she returned to Camden and married Ralph Overlock from Freedom, a talented craftsman and owner of Camden Woodworking. She worked at Tibbett’s Industries in Camden for 17 years. After retiring, she helped Ralph with finishing work and bookkeeping at the shop. Lois had a strong work ethic, enjoyed nature, gardening, cooking, feeding the birds, fishing, camping, and caring for others. At one time, they had owned a cottage on Lake St. George where many enjoyable times were had with family and friends. Pitching horseshoes, laughter and stories were common over a home-cooked meal. She enjoyed many hours playing card games with her grandson, Scott. She was a loving and thoughtful mother and grandmother and very devoted to her family. Surviving are her two sons, Ronald Overlock and his wife, Berniece of Rockport; Patrick Overlock and his wife, Connie, of Hope; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Phil Bowen and his wife Joan of Morrill; sister, Dot Wood and her husband, Stan of Searsport. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Overlock in 2002; son, Richard, daughter, Patty, brothers, Carl, Andy, Dan and Lawrence Bowen; and sisters, Marion, Etta and Elsie. A graveside service will be announced. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to: Camden Area Christian Food Pantry. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
