Michael McLain Obituary

Michael J. McLain, 21, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of February 9th 2012 in Bristol. Born on August 10th 1990 in Bath, he was the son of Steven McLain and Maria Genthner. Michael attended local schools and graduated from Lincoln Academy. He was an energetic young man with old-fashioned standards. He was extremely hard working and never hesitated to lend a hand. It was a work ethic that started at the age of 4, when he began working with his uncle Fred as an electrician’s helper. Michael took great pride in everything he did, always doing the best job he could possibly do. He worked as a plumber for S.F. Prentice and Son for a period of time, but most recently, he had his own lawn care business and worked with Josh Pinkham. He also plowed snow in the winter. He had a great love of the outdoors, and spent endless hours in the woods looking for signs of deer and other animals. He loved to fish and hunt, and was an excellent shot. He was also a member of the Damariscotta Fire Department. Michael has made a tremendous impact in a lot of peoples lives. His life had a greater purpose than anyone knew, and his accomplishments are going to shine through in the people he loved and cared for, for a very long time. Michael was predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Lucille Palino; and a cousin, Aaron Sewall. He is survived by his parents, Steven McLain of Round Pond, and Maria Genthner and her husband, Jamie of Damariscotta; sisters, Sarah McLain and Mary Edna Genthner (who was born on Michaels 16th birthday) of Damariscotta, and Jennifer Genthner of Newcastle; grandparents, Floyd “Mike” and Irene McLain of Round Pond, and Neil and Marie Genthner of Damariscotta; Aunts and uncles, Joanne (Auntie) and Fred Sewall of Damariscotta, Paul and Lurie Palino of Damariscotta, Teddy and Bridget Palino of Leesburg, FL, Judy McLain of Waldoboro, Karen and Dan Helmuth of Damariscotta, Neil Genthner, Jr. of Damariscotta and Robert Genthner of Damariscotta; as well as many cousins and very dear friends. He also leaves his girlfriend, Breanna Waltz of Newcastle. Michael and Breanna had spent the last couple of months getting to know each other and were very happy together. A time to visit with the family will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, February 14th at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta. A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 15th, also at the funeral home. If desired, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Lincoln Academy’s Applied Technology Center, c/o Kathe Cheska, 81 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle, ME 04553. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta.
