Phillis Campbell

Phyllis Campbell, 78, of Damariscotta, died on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Saco, a daughter of the late Frederick and Francis (Hunter) Toher, Sr. Phyllis grew up in Portland and attended Deering High School. On February 8, 1958 she married her sweetheart, Leo Campbell, and together they were long-time members of the Glenwood Square Baptist Church in Portland. Phyllis loved her Lord and her family, and most important to her, was the time they all spent together. She enjoyed being a private caregiver to children and the elderly, and people always had a place at her table, anyone was welcome in her home. She was the foundation for her family’s ministry as they traveled around the world, singing gospel music and spreading God’s message. One of her greatest joys was riding on their motorcycle with her husband, traveling more than 150,000 miles together around the country. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: a son, Leo Campbell, Jr.; two sisters, Francis “Betty” Myers and Marion Jewett; and a brother, Phillip Toher. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of more than sixty years, Leo Campbell, Sr. recently of Newport; four daughters, Cindy-lou Campbell Frit and her husband William, Sr. of Bath, Anna-Maria Campbell Reuman and her husband Christopher of Clinton, Edna Sukeforth and her husband Greg of Wiscasset, and Naomi Campbell of Newport; two sisters, Maryellen Knowles of Standish and Gloria Allen and her husband Bruce of Westbrook; a brother Frederick Toher, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Scarborough; a brother-in-law Robert Jewett of New Jersey; ten grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. “...love you more.” Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a service to celebrate Phyllis’s life at 2 o’clock PM on Thursday afternoon, June 21, 2018 at the Faith Baptist Church, 144 Mills Road, Newcastle, Maine.
