Paul David Chisholm Obituary

Kennebunkport Chief Paul David Chisholm, Hyannis Fire Department, Ret, a resident of Goose Rocks Beach and longtime professional firefighter, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Dave reached his goal of having lived 80 years, following a courageous battle with cancer that he fought with dignity. David was born on October 19, 1937 in Boston, MA, a son of Paul David and Emma Meyers Chisholm. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Brookline, MA, received his Associates degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, and Mass Bay Community College in 1978, with his degree in Fire Science Curriculum. He served his country in the US Navy from 1955 – 1958. David married the love of his life, Eileen Heather Coffin on August 29, 1959, and began their lives together in Dedham, MA. Following his discharge, he worked at Boston and Maine Railroad until 1961 when he started his career as a firefighter with the Dedham Fire Department, rising through its ranks, to serve as Chief. Leaving the Dedham Fire Department, he was appointed Chief of the Hyannis Fire Department, which he served from 1988 to 1997, when he retired from his full time career. David joined the Kennebunkport Volunteer Fire Department in 1988, and has served continually till present time, serving as Assistant Chief of the Goose Rocks Beach Fire Co. and also a stint as Acting Chief of the Kennebunkport Fire Department. He took great pride in having attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, receiving certification in Hazardous Materials Operations and Fire Investigations. While his firefighting family was important, David always focused and loved spending time with Heather, his children and grandchildren, making them the center of his life. He planned family trips and cruises, looked forward to having them visit him and Heather while they spent time in Florida, following each grandchild as they took part in various activities, and supporting them in all their endeavors. He also was a lover of animals and had many dogs over the years, each one special to him in their own way. He was a member of the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise, Kennebunk Rotary Club, Kennebunkport American Legion Post 159, and several professional firefighter associations. Survivors include his wife, Heather Coffin Chisholm of Kennebunkport; his children, Keith Chisholm and his companion Margaret Duque of Norwood , MA, Kerri (Chisholm) Lovejoy and her husband Michael of Kennebunkport, and Todd Chisholm and his wife, Michelle of Wrentham, MA; his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jon, Tyler, and Caroline Chisholm; and his sister, Barbara Muul of Seattle, WA. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours to be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 4, at Church on the Cape, Langsford, Rd, Cape Porpoise. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
