Jeannette M. Pomerleau

Farmington – Jeannette (Moreau) Pomerleau, 101, a former resident of Searles Street, Livermore Falls, died Wednesday evening, March 21st at Sandy River Center in Farmington. She was born April 5, 1910 in Chisholm, the daughter of Francois “Frank” and Josephine (Dumais) Moreau. Her early education took place at the “one-room French school” in Chisholm. The hardships created by the strike of 1921 resulted in the end of her formal education at an early age when she left school to help the family. Following the death of her mother in 1933, Jeannette took care of her younger siblings and continued to help her father until his death in 1958. From 1941 to 1951, Jeannette ran a candy shop in her Main Street home. He fudge, taffy, and roasted peanuts were in high demand as was her specialty, the telephone post sundee. She was also employed as a cook/housekeeper at St. Rose of Lima rectory and later worked at Livermore Falls Shoe Shop. Jeannette was a life-long member of St. Rose of Lima Church and met her husband, Leo Pomerleau there. They were married on May 1, 1964, and spent 28 wonderful years together. He passed away April 18, 1992. She was active into her late 90’s knitting thousands of pairs of mittens for various church organizations. She continued her favorite pastime of visiting with family and keeping involved in the lives of her 35 nieces, nephews, and their extended families. Jeannette devoted her life to her husband; her faith, family and community. Jeannette was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay; a member of Ladies of St. Ann; St. Jean Baptist and Livermore Falls-Jay Senior Citizens. She is survived by her nieces that cared for her, Elaine, Maryette and Laurianne Castonguay of Jay; along many more nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Therese and Clemence Moreau. She was predeceased by her parents, Fracois and Josephine, her husband, Leo, her brothers, Arthur, Alphonse , Victor, Frank, Arthur J., Roland and Normand Moreau and her sisters, Bertha Castonguay and Ida Paradis; sisters-in-law, Jeannette, Armande, Lena and Laura Moreau, and brothers-in-law, George Castonguay and Alfred Paradis.
