Farmington – Richard H. “Dickie” Nelson, 81, a resident of Jay, passed away, with his loving family by his side, on Friday, March 31st at Sandy River Center in Farmington, where he had resided for the past 22 months. He was born September 2, 1935 in Augusta, the son of Jack Nelson and Barbara (Bailey) Nelson. Dickie attended school in Lewiston and Livermore Falls. On June 22, 1955 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chisholm, he married Mary Ann “Mimi” Deshaies of Chisholm. Dickie work for International Paper at the Otis Mill and later transferred to the Androscoggin Mill in Jay, where he worked on number 4 & 5 paper machines in stock prep. He retired in 1998. Dickie was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club, the Jay/Livermore Falls hunting club and was an assistant coach for the AYS Little League. Dickie and Mimi enjoyed spending over 30 years at the Edgewater Motel at Old Orchard Beach during the summer months. He also loved going fishing and spending time with his wife and family at the Town & Lake Motel and Cabins in the Rangeley and Mount Blue State Park in Weld. Dickie was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann “Mimi” Nelson, his daughters, Candy Bessey and her husband Dale, and Judy Farrington and her husband Robert all of Jay, and his son, Richard H. “Buddy” Nelson, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Lewiston, daughter-in-law, Diane Nelson of Manchester, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. He is also survived by his sister Donna Palmer and her husband Bucky of Livermore; and brothers, David Nelson and companion, Judy Knapp of Oregon; Neal Nelson and his wife Sue and Tommy and his wife Betty all of Ohio. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Michael J. “Spike” Nelson. The family would like to express their appreciation to all of Sandy River Center for their devoted care and loving support to Dickie and his family, also Beacon Hospice, as well as their many devoted family members and friends that came to lend a hand and offer their support. Funeral services will be held 11AM on Tuesday, April 4th at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Monday, April 3rd at the funeral home. Interment in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
