Corinne Kelley Obituary

SCARBOROUGH and MILLINOCKET – Corinne A. (McDonald) Kelley, 88, beloved wife, mother, and “Nana,” died Thursday, March 30 2017, with much love and support from her family. She fought a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s with such dignity. She was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Brewer, the youngest child of Fred and Mildred McDonald. She was a graduate of Sherman High School and went on to receive a degree in education from University of Maine at Presque Isle. She married her childhood sweetheart, best friend and love of her life, George F. Kelley in 1950 and had 57 loving years of marriage. Together they raised five children. Her family was her greatest joy and she devoted her life to making them happy. She treasured her time with all her grandchildren and gave them the gift of her special hugs every time she saw them. The profession she was most proud of was being a stay at home mother. She also was a beloved teacher in schools in Sherman and Millinocket and enjoyed teaching her in-home preschool and daycare with her father, “Papa”. Her life and career centered around children. She was a member of St. Martin of Tours parish in Millinocket and in her later years, Saint Maximillian Kolbe parish in Scarborough. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and taught Religious Education for years in Millinocket. She will be remembered for the many special children events she coordinated at the Knights of Columbus Hall with her husband. Everyone that entered her house was treated to her amazing baking: chocolate balls, peanut butter squares, whoopee pies and cream puffs were her specialties and her grandchildren always knew where her candy drawer was! We have many special memories of time spent with family and friends at camp at Smith Pond and Fourth of July at home on Highland Avenue with Blushing Bunny of course! She will be sadly missed by her loving children, George Kelley Jr. and wife, Martha, of Wiscasset, Milly Snider and husband, Pete, of Milford, N.H., Tom Kelley and wife, Sandy, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Karen Hopkins and husband, Scott, of Scarborough. She will be forever cherished by her nine grandchildren, Kelly, Andrea, Michael, Austin, Rachel, Jason, Andrew, Alyssa and Adrianna and three great grandchildren, Charlotte, Vivian and Caden. She is also survived by her brother, Willard and his wife Beryl, sisters in law, Joyce Luciani and Cecile McDonald; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, her parents; her brothers, Fred and Robert; and daughter Susan, and infant daughter, Theresa Jane. Friends may call 11:00 am Tuesday at Lamson Funeral Home in Millinocket; followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1:oo pm. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Katahdin Area Support Group P.O. Box 374 Millinocket, ME 04462, or The Maine Foundation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, 1 Mackworth Island, Falmouth, Maine 04105.
